The service for a passenger is free of charge. You will never have to pay to use vToms Passenger app.

I AM NOT WHERE I SHOULD BE ON THE MAP OR "CANNOT LOOK UP ADDRESS", WHY IS THIS?

This is almost always a GPS problem. vToms can only show you where your device tells it you are. Make sure you are located where the device has a good view of the open sky and wait for the GPS to get a fix. If it is taking too long for a valid location, the possibility of entering an address manually or the "Waiting Passenger" icon can be dragged by a prolonged press to the correct location. If the app complains about not being able to lookup an address, this is due to some google services that run in your device that sometime misbehave, in most cases, exiting vToms through the menu and re-starting usually fixes the problem. If you cannot see yourself on the map zoom out to 0.0 deg (West Central Africa) if the icon appears there, this means your device has not got a GPS fix. This could mean that more time is needed for the GPS to obtain the correct location, being outside or having a clear view of the sky will help and should lock in to your position shortly after.

I NEVER RECEIVED THE VERIFICATION CODE SENT TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS, WHY IS THIS?

If for some reason you did not receive the verification email, chances are the problem is with your email server. Make sure you have checked your spam box just in case it ended up there, and make sure you have registered with your correct email address. Rest assured, we are sending you the verification email for the address that you provided. After you have validated your email address, the email address becomes the vToms login username, e.g., John Smith. So his username for vToms will be "johnsmith@gmail.com". Please use a password that you are capable of remembering, this does not have to be the same as the email address provided, choose one for vToms that is easy to remember. Password can be changed at any time through Menu->Preferences->Account.

I CANNOT GET PASSED THE START UP CHECKLIST, WHY?

When vToms starts up, it does a quick self test. It checks for an internet connection, checks that GPS is active and lastly, if the correct version of vToms is installed. If there is a red cross on any of those checks, login will not be possible. In the case that internet was crossed, make sure your data is on. Try opening a browser and perform a search on google, preferably a new unique search to avoid it displaying from cache. If internet is working, repeat the login process, if it fails then, write to us at info@vtoms.com and tell us about it. If it complains that the device GPS is turned off, vToms will prompt you to enable it by taking you to the exact place in Settings where you can do so. We allow users to fall behind only one version, if it is greater that that, you will not be allowed to login and you must update the app. This is important as we are constantly modifying and upgrading our system.

WHAT TYPE OF DEVICE DO I NEED TO OPERATE VTOMS?

HOW CAN I OBTAIN AN ESTIMATED QUOTE FOR A JOURNEY?

By pressing on a car on the map you will see how much a driver charges for first mile (minimum fare) and every other mile thereafter. If you know the estimated mileage for your journey you can work it out. Not sure of the mileage on your journey, use google maps to help obtain the total distance.

HOW MUCH DOES VTOMS COST?

The cost for the service for a Driver is based on a credit system and credits need to be purchased beforehand, similar to topping-up mobile phone plan. One credit is equal to a 24 hour count down from when you first login to vToms Driver. Price of a credit is £2.50, and extra credits may be given on larger bulk purchases of credits. A referral system is likely to be initiated at a later date and will reward credits once an objective has been met.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE VEHICLE TO MOUNT THE DEVICE?

For vToms to operate properly, it needs to use your device on-board GPS, and for GPS to work properly, it needs the best view of the open sky that you can provide. A sucker mount on the windscreen may well be the best place, as long as you are not obstructing your vision of the road. Safety first and above all. If you find that you cannot give the device an adequate view of the sky and your device has to be mounted elsewhere, then you might want to consider the use of an external Bluetooth GPS that you can pair. The quality of these external GPS units usually out match any on-board GPS.

SHOULD I RELY SOLELY ON MY GPS FOR DISTANCE TRAVELLED?

Short answer, NO! GPS works well under the correct conditions. Unfortunately, not all drivers can provide those conditions. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you set your car's trip as a control measure to verify that the GPS is correct before charging the passenger. In the event that the mileage is off, the opportunity to correct is given before the job is ended.
